Austin Elementary School

Austin Elementary School was built in 1926 after a bill was passed by the Nevada State Legislature in 1925 to build it. The school was designed by George Ferris and Son of Reno and built by Anderson and McShea, general contractors from Winnemucca, Nevada. They finished the building in October of 1926 and it was opened as the Austin Combined School with grades one through twelve. The firm that designed the school also designed the Governors Mansion in Carson City. In 1928 the gym was added. In 1988 a new school was built on State Route 305 North of Austin to house the students sixth through twelve. Grades kindergarten through fifth remained in the building until the fall of 2004.
